Commissioner Jonathan Pitts, who also serves as recreation committee chairman, began the June 20 meeting by circulating copies of bylaws from an active advisory committee in Cobb County. Pitts said Jimmy Gisi, Georgia Recreation and Park Association executive director, sent him the bylaws following a conversation at the recent commissioners training at Lake Lanier.
Jones County Recreation Director Matt Goins said the Cobb County board has seven members who are selected by the board of commissioners through an application process.
“The advisory board sets policy, establishes rules and bylaws,” Goins said.
Pitts said it is a good start for Jones County to have an example to use to develop its own bylaws. He suggested a work session with the commissioners to get started.
