The Jones County School System appears well on the way to countywide reaccreditation after a favorable review by the inspection committee last week.

Judy Wesley, a retired educator from South Carolina who chaired the five-person review team from AdvanceED that spent three days observing classes on all eight Jones County campuses and meeting with more than 175 people here, told Jones County Board of Education members and school administrators that the visit had felt like “Christmas in March” for the team.

“We’ve never been treated this royally,” she said, and the Jones County system is “the best I’ve seen since I started doing these reviews several years ago.”

Jones County School Superintendent William Mathews said it was gratifying to have outside observers validate the work of those in the system to provide a quality education for the county’s students.

“Our students, teachers, administrators, board and parents have worked very hard for this, so it feels good when someone tells you that we’re the best they’ve seen,” Mathews said. “It’s like someone bragging on your children. But we also know we have to keep working to not only stay where we are, but keep improving.”
