Chief appraiser Linda Sibley reported that a representative of the Georgia Department of Revenue had spent a day in Gray last month doing a once-every-three-years review of the Jones County appraisers office.
“He was gathering data and will put together his report that will be reviewed at the state level before it is released to us,” she said. “But while he was here he said he didn’t find anything big negative, just a couple of things we could work on. It could be a month or several months before they issue their report – it depends on their workload.”
Sibley said a state representative will be back in Gray on Dec. 8 to go over the county’s sales ratio study with her staff to be sure it is in order.
During a lengthy discussion about changes to the policies and procedures manual, board chairman Don Turner said a paragraph needed to be added to the portion on conservation use status to require those with less than 10 acres seeking the conservation status because they are raising timber to provide proof that the timber is being raised for harvest.
