While the Gray Jaycees’ Christmas Parade was taking place a short distance away, Jones County Board of Education members were tending to school business at their monthly meeting.

According to a draft copy of the minutes of the Dec. 11 board meeting, School Superintendent William Mathews presented board member Alfred Pitts with a certificate from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office in recognition of his re-election to the Board of Education.

Board member Mark Andrews was not at the meeting and Board Chairman Ginger Bailey accepted his certificate.

Dropout prevention coordinator Bonnie Peters presented board members with a Jones County success story, Gary Foster, who was a ninth-grade dropout. Peters said, when he contacted the school last year, he was 19 and had zero credits. He now has 18 credits and is on track to graduate.
