A Jones County Superior Court judge said he was not willing to risk releasing an armed robbery suspect on bond, despite the urging of the victim.

Keith Pittman James, 26, was arrested Feb. 3 on charges of armed robbery, simple battery, and burglary. The victim of the crime was his grandfather.

James was in court April 11 asking for bond. He was represented in the hearing by attorney Janelle Calhoun, and bond was opposed by District Attorney Gregory Bushway.

The prosecutor told the court that James lives with his grandparents. He said the grandfather went to the door on the day of the crime to find one of his grandson’s friends with his grandson beside him holding a baseball bat.

“The friend grabbed the grandfather, took him to the floor and took his wallet,” Bushway said.

The prosecutor said James has a history of mental issues and a mental evaluation has been ordered.
