The Nov. 27 meeting of the state board was presided over by Secretary of State Brian Kemp, and Gray’s case was one of the first on the agenda.
Election Board investigator Chris Harvey presented the alleged election violations against Jamie Lewandowski, who acted as the city’s election superintendent for Gray’s 2009 election. The general election took place Nov. 3, 2009, and the runoff was Dec. 1, 2009. The runoff is the election that Harvey investigated.
“In a nutshell, almost nothing in that election was done correctly as far as documentation,” the investigator stated.
Charges included failure to keep a record of voters who needed assistance, failure to maintain a master list of absentee ballots mailed, failure to ask for photo identification of electors, failure to certify eligibility of absentee ballot applicants, and failure to complete required information on absentee applications and ballots.
