The final meeting of Gray’s City Council was preceded by the swearing in of the new board and ended with a farewell to an outgoing member.

The Dec. 2 meeting was presided over by Mayor Pro Tem Loretta Lipsey in the absence of Mayor Gus Wilson.

Probate Judge Mike Greene did the honors of giving the oaths of office to Mayor-elect Stephen Tingen, Mayor Pro Tem-elect Ed Barbee, and councilmen Terry Favors, David Tufts, and Terrell Fulford.

Councilman Benny Gray was ill and did not attend the meeting.

The new mayor and council will take their positions as of Jan. 1, 2014.

Main Street Gray Manager Jennifer Baggarly thanked the council members who attended the recent volunteer appreciation dinner, and she talked about the upcoming downtown Gray Christmas season kickoff scheduled Dec. 14. She said the festivities would start at noon and end with a free concert by the band Freelance Ruckus.
