Deal held the attention of DFES kindergarteners during her March 26 visit with her enthusiastic interpretation of the children’s book Who I’d Like to Be and left copies of the book for the school library.
So far she has visited 100 counties and 170 schools during her campaign to support the governor’s Read Across Georgia initiative with the goal of emphasizing to parents, teachers and mentors the importance of being proficient in reading.
Deal said the governor’s goal is to have all of Georgia’s children reading on grade level by third grade.
Among those who came to the elementary school for the first lady’s visit were Jones County Board of Education members Deloras Moon, Alfred Pitts, and Chairman Ginger Bailey.
