Jones County’s Board of Health held their first quarterly meeting of 2014 at a new location and discussed more changes affecting the board.

The March 5 meeting took place at the Board of Education’s Professional Learning Center and was led by Chairman Rallie ‘Rooster’ Cogburn.

The chairman has held the position since 2007 when he was elected to fill the vacancy of G.B. Moore III. Cogburn has been a member of the board since 1995 and previously served as vice chairman.

Dr. Kara Moore will take over the chairmanship as of June 1. Cogburn suggested board members consider who would replace Moore as vice chairman.

Environmental Specialist Floyd Comer presented the environmental health activity report for Dec. 1, 2013, through Feb. 28, 2014. He pointed out increases in new septic tank permits. The number of permits issued over the three-month period was four.

“It’s a small amount, but the number doubled since the same time last year,” he said.
