The Greyhounds eased the pain of not qualifying for the state playoffs by snapping their three-game losing streak with a 49-0 victory at Grovetown last Friday to avoid a losing season with a 5-5 final record.

And junior Walker Juhan finished with a flourish, scoring six touchdowns and rushing for 216 yards to push him over 1,000 yards for the season, despite missing one game with an ankle injury.

He finishes the season with 1,070 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing, 98 yards receiving and 8 yards and one touchdown passing.

“We told him going in he needed 146 to get to 1,000, and he ran for 216, so that was quite a finish,” coach Dwight Jones said. “And we see that as a team accomplishment, because he’s got to have guys blocking for him and others running the ball, too.”

Jones said avoiding a losing season was also big for the team, especially the seniors, who became the second class in a row to finish never having experienced a losing season as varsity players.
