As the weather warmed up last week, so did the Jones County bats. And after starting with a couple of losses, the Greyhounds won their next three games. But the momentum shifted again on Monday with a 5-4 loss at Luella, leaving the Greyhounds at 9-7 on the season.

“We had a bunch of chances, left the bases loaded a couple of times, but we hit the ball well,” coach Barry Veal said of Monday’s loss. “We played spotless in the field, made no errors.”

And despite the loss, he said he is feeling better about his team.

“We’ve starting hitting the ball better and are playing the best we have all year,” Veal said. “Hopefully we’re peaking at the right time.”

They need to, as they were to begin their final four-game stretch in subregion play with a home game against Houston County on Tuesday. The Bears, 12-1 overall, were in first place with a 4-0 subregion record. Jones County was 2-3, tied for second with Northside-Warner Robins.
