Senior Jackson Williamson and junior Tim Randolph lead a contingent of 10 Jones County wrestlers who have qualified for the state east sectional to be held in Loganville this weekend.

Randolph, at 106 pounds, and Williamson, at 285, both won their weight classes in the Region 2-AAAAA individual meet held last weekend at Northside-Warner Robins.

Northside took the team title with 171 points, and Jones County was second at 154. That was reverse of the standings in the dual tournament hosted by the Greyhounds last month.

“We only had 12 wrestlers compete in the individuals,” coach Daniel Lewis said. “We weren’t able to fill the other two classes due to injuries (to 145-pounder Jequelle Griffin and 170-pounder Justin Clausell), and it is hard to make up missing those points. But the guys we had wrestling did a good job, and 10 of our 12 qualified for the sectionals.”

Lewis said it is the first time in several years that the Greyhounds have had that many advance out of region. Last year, Randolph was the team’s only qualifier.
