The Jones County girls split a pair of home games last week, whipping Twiggs County 65-22 in a non-region contest on Tuesday and dropping another close region game on Friday, falling 42-39 to Northside-Warner Robins.

The loss left the Lady Hounds at 8-14 overall and 0-5 in the subregion heading into their final region game at Warner Robins on Tuesday. But even a victory against the Lady Demons wouldn’t be enough to pull them out of last place in the west subregion, so they will open play in the Region 2-AAAAA Tournament next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against Evans, the top seed from the east subregion.

Worse than the loss was top shooter Heather Rushin going out in the fourth quarter with a separated shoulder.

Having the shoulder pop out of joint has been a recurring problem for the senior during her career, and it already happened once early this season. Coach Lance Pittman said he will likely hold her out of the team’s final two regular season games in hopes she’ll be recovered in time for the region tournament.

“Our seed is already determined. We’d like to win the last two games to get some momentum going for the tournament, but getting her back is more important,” Pittman said.
