Coweta County Blue defeated Coweta County Red 9-4 in the championship game of the double-elimination tournament.
The action was originally scheduled for the Central Recreation Complex off of Ga. 18, which is where Gray Station plays its home games, but it was moved at the last minute due to a conflict with a youth football tournament being held at the Ga. 18 complex. The Ga. 49 complex is where Clifton Ridge plays its home games.
The Gray Station girls were 3-2 in the tournament, beating Mount de Sales 10-0, losing to Coweta Blue 7-4, beating East Laurens 9-2, beating Clifton Ridge 11-1 and losing to Coweta Red 11-0.
Clifton Ridge beat East Laurens 7-3, lost to Coweta Red 6-2, beat Mount de Sales 11-1 and lost to Gray Station 11-1.
Gray Station coach Mandy Vaughn said the tournament was a good opportunity to give her players a chance to work together and for some of them to try out new positions before the start of the regular season, which was scheduled to begin with a game at Crawford County on Tuesday. The Lady Hounds’ first home game is Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against Byron.
