The Jones County girls lost their first two games of the season last week, being edged by Veterans 46-44 on Tuesday and falling 50-33 to Baldwin on Friday. Both games were on the road.

Despite the losses, coach Lance Pittman said he was pleased with the progress being made by the younger girls in his lineup.

Freshmen Travia Rawlings and Krystal Wimberly especially have shown they are adjusting to the speed of the varsity game.

“Considering they are making the jump straight from middle school ball, they have played well,” he said. “They’ve been our top two scorers so far. They do still need to work on catching passes and always being ready for the ball, but they’re doing well.”

They’ve had to take on a bigger role early because senior shooting guard Heather Rushin has been limited due to illness and injury.
