The Lady Hounds swept Lakeside-Evans in the opening round of the region playoffs last Friday, winning 17-0 and 12-0 to advance to the final four, which will be a double-elimination tournament.
Jones County will start things by hosting Evans at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Greenbrier against Houston County at 3 p.m. The losers of the first two games will play at 5 p.m., and then the winners from the first two meet at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, the survivor from Wednesday’s loser’s bracket game faces the loser of the winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. The winner of that game then plays the winner from Wednesday’s final game at 6 p.m. The if-necessary game, featuring the same two teams, would be at 8 p.m. if needed.
All four schools have already qualified to advance to the state playoffs, which begin Oct. 17, but this week’s region tournament will determine where the region’s teams will be seeded, along with crowning a region champion.
Jones County improved to 25-3 with the sweep of Lakeside-Evans, which finished the season at 2-15 after being completely outmatched by the Lady Hounds. Junior left-hander Kylie Bass pitched both games, throwing a three-inning perfect game no-hitter in the opener and a one-hit four-inning shutout in the second. She struck out 13 and walked none in the two games.
