Jones County's trip to the state playoffs proved to be brief when Union Grove won the deciding game in the best-of-three opening round series 7-4 Friday evening in Gray.

The Lady Hounds finish the season with a 28-7 record. Union Grove, 20-15, advances to play at Effingham County in the second round.

Union Grove won the first game in the series 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon, but Jones County rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second game Wednesday night for a 6-5 win in extra innings to force the third game.

But there was no magical rally for the Lady Hounds on Friday. Brittani Crawford staked the Wolverines to a 4-0 lead with a grand slam homer in the first, and though Jones County chipped away at the lead with two runs in the third and another in the fifth, Union Grove was able to counter with two in the bottom of the fifth to hold off the Lady Hounds.
