Former Jones County baseball player Cody Lanford, now a freshman outfielder at Middle Georgia State College in Cochran, has been named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association all-conference second team.

Lanford led the team in batting average (.328), stolen bases (40) and runs scored (36). He is fifth in the nation in stolen bases.

Middle Georgia won the GCAA/NJCAA Region 17 Championship last Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Darton College. The Knights, now 39-13, advance to the National Junior College East Central District Tournament that begins May 16 in Morristown, Tenn.

Also advancing were Darton, the Region 17 regular season champ, Region 7 tournament winner Columbia State Community College, and Region 7 regular season champ Walter State Community College.

The district winner advances to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., May 25-June 1.
