Jerry Dewayne Houston will be allowed to serve his sentence on probation following his time in a state probation detention center. As part of his plea agreement, Houston will testify at the trial of his co-defendant, Willie Eugene Howard, and submit to an interview by investigators from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
Houston and Howard were arrested Sept. 16, 2012, and were indicted by a grand jury for burglary in first degree Dec. 3.
Assistant District Attorney Gregory Bushway told the court at the March 7 plea hearing that Houston admitted to driving Howard to the Oakview Drive residence and waiting outside while his codefendant committed the theft.
According to a story in The Jones County News about the men’s arrest, Capt. Earl Humphries of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said officers had been investigating a series of burglaries in Jones County in which a blue Chevrolet Astro van was used.
The van was spotted by Deputy William Jernigan who watched it riding through the neighborhoods and stopped it as it was exiting the neighborhood.
