Mr. Herrington was born near Cordele on Feb. 24, 1928, and was the son of the late Robert David Herrington and Ethel Shrouder Herrington, both of Crisp County. After completing his education, he worked as a bread distributor in the Macon vicinity for several years. Mr. Herrington was an active Mason and a Shriner prior to his declining health. He was affectionately known to many friends and family by his two nicknames, “Shoat” in his earlier years and “Pete” later in life. Mr. Herrington will be remembered for his storytelling and joke telling, which brought smiles and laughter to many people through the years.
Mr. Herrington is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Gayle Herrington of Haddock, who have served as Pete’s faithful caretakers for many years; daughter, Sherry Summers; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin S. and Claudia Herrington of Canton; grandchildren and spouses, Clay Herrington and Megan Herrington, both of Haddock, Candice Herrington of Gray, Angie and Darrin Clark of Woodstock and Reggie and Amy Summers of Quincy, Ill.; and by seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
