GRAY: Charles E. Lundy Sr., 68, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in Gray. The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Highway 358, Danville. Services are being held Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2:00 p.m., at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Slaughter, Dr. Ron McClung, and the Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield are officiating.

Mr. Lundy was born in Philadelphia, Miss., the son of the late Robert E. “Bobby” Lundy. He graduated from Philadelphia High School, earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Southern Mississippi, his M.Ed. at the University of Western Carolina, and completed postgraduate work at Georgia State University, The University of Georgia and Nova University. He began his teaching career in 1967 in Cherokee County and became a principal before he was 30 years old. From 1973 to 1980 Mr. Lundy was the principal of Hazel Grove Elementary School. In 1980, he moved to Twiggs County as principal of Twiggs County High School and retired as facilities director of the Twiggs County Board of Education in 2003. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a longtime Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Kilpatrick Lundy; sons, Charles E. “Chip” (Amy) Lundy Jr., Jon Patrick (Fonda) Lundy and Aubrey Joshua “Josh” (Aimee) Lundy; mother, Ethel S. Lundy; brothers, Bobby Joe (Jackie) Lundy and William Harold “Bill” (Connie) Lundy; grandchildren, Charles E. “Chase” Lundy III, Avery John Lundy, Hannah Leigh Lundy, Sarah Grace Lundy, Grayson Wyatt Lundy and Bennett Reece Lundy; seven nieces and six nephews; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church Youth Fund.
