GRAY: Evelyn Clark Williams Jackson, 90, of Gray Highway, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in a local nursing home. The family received friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., prior to an 11:00 a.m. funeral, on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Clinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ricky Varnell and Dr. Van Nesbit officiating. Burial followed at Highview Cemetery in Gray.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Eatonton on Dec. 9, 1922, and had lived in Gray most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Henry Ernest Williams and Gertrude Ester Barker Williams. After completing her education, she worked for the Bibb County Board of Education as the system film librarian. Mrs. Jackson was a gracious lady who loved Middle Georgia and her fellow citizens and spent a great deal of her time living what she believed. She was a member of numerous civic and local organizations. As a member of the Jones County Pilot Club, she served as the “Sunshine Lady,” coordinating sending cards, gifts, etc., during appropriate occasions. She also volunteered to help fingerprint the children of Jones County each year in order to help their parents and local law enforcement keep the youngsters safe. In honor of her commitment, she was named Pilot of the Year in 1997. Mrs. Jackson served as a volunteer receptionist for over five years for the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce, devoting over 8,000 hours of service to her community. She was named Jones County Volunteer of the Year in 1996 and 1998 by the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Jackson was also a member of the Gray Travelers and the AARP. Her faith was an important foundation in her life. Mrs. Jackson served as an elder for her original home church, First Presbyterian Church of Eatonton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Benjamin Jackson Jr.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tim McKinney; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Benjamin III and Kibby Jackson; grandchildren and their spouses, Alex and Annie McKinney, Casey and Ashton Green and Kelli Jackson Squires; and by her great-granddaughter, Jade McKinney.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either Clinton United Methodist Church, 110 Old Highway 18, Gray, GA 31032; First Presbyterian Church of Eatonton, 307 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton, GA 31024; or to FurEver Friends Humane Society, P.O. Box 2276, Gray, GA 31032.
