Mrs. Kitchens was born in Pulaski County but had made her home in Haddock for over 62 years. She was a graduate of Pineview High School and was a member of the 1949 and 1950 state champion basketball team. She worked for J.P. Stevens, and owned her own beauty shop and daylily farm for over 30 years. She was a member of Haddock Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school class for over 30 years.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin Kitchens of Haddock; three sons, Marty Kitchens (Nancy) of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Gerry Kitchens of Jones County, Murray Kitchens (Angie) of Haddock; two daughters, Jeannie Sheppard (Randall) of Haddock, Pam Brown (Ricky) of Newport, Tenn.; two brothers, Ernest Jones of Loganville, Delma Jones of Gray, Geraldine Watts of Albany; 12 grandchildren, Lacie, Randy, Matthew, Alicia, Kristy, Kevin, Nikki, Brennan, Lindsey, Emily, Kelsey and Kyle; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haddock Baptist Church Building Fund.
