Friends of Danny Gay have united to raise money for his pending heart transplant with a poker run that will take place Saturday morning.

Gay has been on the heart transplant list for six weeks and waits for the call that a match is available. He said he has been having heart problems for five years, and the doctors hope he will not have to wait long.

Donnie Brown organized the Nov. 9 poker run. The ride will start and end at the Jones County Lions Club Fairgrounds and the proceeds will be used for the transplant recipient’s expenses after the operation.

Gay has both a pacemaker and defibrillator implanted in his chest because he suffers from cardiomyopathy, which is a disease that weakens and enlarges the heart muscle.

His status on the transplant list requires him to stay within four hours of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta at all times.

Gay met his wife Christy at the heart center of the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon where she is a nurse. They have been married a month.
