In his day, Elijah took on the popculture within Queen Jezebel’s worshippers of the gods Ba’al and Asherah. The challenge was in the open for all to witness. Similar to TV’s Survivor, contestants stood readied against each other.
The task was to build and restore, to create an altar, put a sacrifice on top, then seek favor of their personal Almighty, results being the altar emblazoned from heaven.
The Jezebelite’s first action was simple. Like a reality show contestant who auditions and thanks a higher power, or the athlete who points to the sky, the worshippers of Ba’al and Asherah began thanking and pointing.
This failed, so like the unaccepted American Idol wannabe who throws a fit because their life just ended at 18, the Jezebelites began crying and begging to their god.
All eyes turned to Elijah. This is where the cameras would have shut off and producers would have come running. Elijah pours water on his altar, soaking his sacrifice, seemingly guaranteeing failure.
