County Administrator Mike Underwood passed out an information guide for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax elections to board members at their Jan. 7 meeting and explained that the county can only hold elections at certain times of the year.
He said the county was working to put talking points together with thoughts of a July 15 election as it was listed on the secretary of state’s website.
Because of a nationwide discussion about the time involved to count absentee ballots for the military, federal Judge Steve Jones moved the date of Georgia’s federal primaries to May 20.
“The bottom line is, to comply with Georgia laws for special elections, we need to begin the process immediately,” Underwood said.
He said dates are going to play a factor when it comes to timelines, meetings with city officials, and passing resolutions.
