The old fire tower will remain after the new fire station is built in Griswoldville Park, located off Highway 57. In addition to the industrial park, the fire station will serve the surrounding area, which will help lower homeowner insurance for the residents. A water tower will also be constructed on the site.

Jones County’s Development Authority members are being proactive in an attempt to get Griswoldville Park on the radar of industries looking for a home.

Authority Chairman Greg Mullis opened the June 11 meeting with a brief overview of a previous meeting that included board of education members and county commissioners and a discussion about possible incentives that could be offered for park prospects.

The incentives would most likely include tax reductions and/or reduced land prices.

“We all filled out a survey about what we would be willing to do and the results will be brought to our next meeting,” he said.

Executive Director Kathyjo Gordon talked about covenants for the industrial park. She said she had a meeting with Alan Nippert, who owns NFI Installation, the only company currently located in Griswoldville Park. She said he had a couple of suggestions, and those changes will be made. The documents will then be provided to authority members for their approval.
