His senior season hasn’t gone as well as Brandon Spivey had hoped, but the right-handed pitcher says there is still time for the Greyhounds to put together a strong finish.

And announcing he is signing a scholarship to play at Georgia College & State University next year, Spivey knows that his baseball career will continue beyond this season.

“That’s a big relief,” he said after his signing ceremony at Jones County High School Tuesday morning. “I’m glad I’ve finally decided. Now I can play without worrying about scouts or anything the rest of the season.”

Spivey took the loss Monday in the Greyhounds’ final regular season game to fall to 4-3 with one save in 10 games. Now they have to win a best-of-three series at Evans Thursday and Friday in the opening round of the region playoffs for his senior season to continue.

“I’ve got a good feeling about it,” said Spivey, who will start one of the games on the mound and likely play first or second in the others.
