The Dec. 4 meeting began with planning and zoning requests presented by Zoning Officer Tim Pitrowski. The first item to be considered was a request by Enova Wood Pellet Group to rezone 76 acres from agricultural rural to general industrial for the purpose of establishing a wood pellet production facility.
The production facility will actually be located in Twiggs County, and the Jones County portion will be used for the loading of rail cars. The property is located on Nitrogen Road near the Twiggs/Wilkinson line. The commissioners’ vote for approval of the request was unanimous.
Darrell Howell asked for a conditional use to allow a singlewide mobile home on a lot smaller than 10 acres. It would be a second home on the property and will be used for aged parents to live. The request was unanimously approved.
A request to build a church on Highway 18 East was denied by the board. Commissioner Tommy Robinson explained that the church was not compatible with the area, and the structure would have a backward impact.
