A teenager’s attempted theft of a cement mixer resulted in his arrest and a drug charge.

Dakota Weis pled guilty to violations of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act possession of codeine and criminal attempt to commit theft by taking in Jones County Superior Court, June 6, and received a total of five years. The sentence may be served on probation.

The drug charge is a felony and the other charge is a misdemeanor. The defendant was allowed to plea as a first offender, which means if he abides by the terms on his probation, the felony charge will not appear on his permanent record.

According to the report of the arrest by Deputy Marcus Jackson, he was dispatched to McKinzie Drive April 30 in reference to a suspicious vehicle. When the deputy arrived, he was told by the homeowner that he noticed a cement mixer located on his property had been moved and he had heard loud banging noises.

Jackson said it was apparent the cement mixer had been dragged to the property next door. He followed the path and came upon a pickup truck loaded with scrap metal.
