Variance approved for gas pumps at Ingles

Gray City Council members officially adopted the 2014 millage rate and set city employees’ salary scale at their meeting last week.

The city’s tax rate will remain the same at 9.50 mills for the coming year as it has in the past eight years, which is definitely good news for city taxpayers. The 2014 city budget and employee pay scale were also unanimously adopted.

The Oct. 7 meeting began with a report from Main Street Gray Manager Jennifer Baggarly, who announced the date for the organization’s volunteer appreciation dinner is Nov. 21. She said details about the event would be released at a later date.

Under new business, a public hearing was held on the issue of the rezoning of 10.23 acres of land located on Highway 18E. The land was zoned R-1, single family residential, and the request was to rezone it to R-3, multifamily residential, for the purpose of building a nursing home.

The question was asked of petitioner Chap Nelson what would happen to the property if the nursing home did not come to fruition. Nelson said the company has already taken substantial steps and investments to make sure it does.
