And junior guard Sonterria Kitchens showed she is an able replacement, scoring 78 points in the three games to lead the Lady Hawks and win the tournament MVP award.
Kitchens had 32 points in a 65-51 victory over Dublin on Thursday, 29 in a double overtime 73-69 victory over Salem on Friday, and 17 in the 49-39 championship game victory over Elbert County on Saturday.
And that last effort came after she had to go to the hospital after Friday’s game due to severe cramping from dehydration.
It was Washington County’s second championship in the tournament in the last three years.
After surviving Friday’s thriller against Salem, the Lady Hawks took an early lead against Elbert County in Saturday’s title game and remained in control throughout.
