The Sept. 13 death of Debra Vinson Brown, 47, is being investigated by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, but no details were available at the time this paper went to press Tuesday afternoon.

Brown was charged with murder in the July 9 shooting death of her husband, Mitchell. Debra Brown was found dead this past Tuesday in the same Creekside home where the July shooting occurred. She had been granted a $250,000 bond in Jones County Superior Court July 21.

The circumstances surrounding Mitchell Brown’s death was argued before the court during the bond hearing. The defense claimed that the wife was a victim of abuse and appeared to be building a case of self defense.

Assistant District Attorney Gregory Bushway argued that both the defendant and the victim were drinking the night of the shooting. He disputed the claim of self defense, stating that no evidence at the scene of the crime supported the defendant’s story.
