The Jones County girls committed four errors in a 12-4 loss at Veterans High in a preseason scrimmage game last Friday.
“We have some young girls in the lineup this year. Most of them got to play a good bit as freshmen last year, but we’ve moved people around some so it may take a little while to settle in on positions,” coach Blake Lyons said.
“The younger girls have a lot of talent, but now they are playing against girls two, three, four years older. We may need to be creative in producing runs, so that means there will be a premium on playing good defense. Hopefully we can settle in and start doing that pretty quick.”
Veterans jumped ahead with seven runs on eight hits, two walks and an error in the first two innings against junior starter Chloe Bramlett.
The Lady Hounds rallied with all four of their runs in the third. Bramlett walked and moved to second when Jazmine Washington reached on a bunt. Bramlett scored and Washington went to third when Olivia Lane grounded out to second. Kylie Bass singled in Washington and later scored on a single by Kensley Brown. Taylor Bennett, who walked, moved to second on Brown’s hit and stole third, scored on a passed ball for the final run.
