It was the third meeting of the season between the two. Gray Station won the first, 11-1 in a season-opening tournament. A week later, Clifton Ridge downed the Lady Hounds for the first time in years, winning 5-4 in a rain-shortened game.
In the rubber match, Clifton Ridge scored single runs in the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead, which it held until the bottom of the fifth inning when Gray Station rallied with six runs on seven hits and one error. The Lady Hounds added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Clifton Ridge had scored once in the top of the inning, extending their lead to 10-4.
But the Lady Cougars would not go quietly. They rallied for four runs on one hit, two walks and two Gray Station errors in the top of the seventh before Bree Comer settled down and got the final two outs on ground balls to the infield.
In the decisive fifth inning, Miranda Justice doubled home Sierra Berkner, who had singled, to tie the game with Berkner just a beating a throw to the plate. Maddie Knight and Logan Faulk reached on infield singles to load the bases, and Comer cleared them with a three-run triple to right. She scored on a sacrifice bunt by Cheyanne Mosteller, and Madie Findlay doubled home the final run.
