A long-awaited water project to assist several Jones County homeowners with safe drinking water moved forward at last week’s commissioners meeting.

The Sept. 18 meeting began on a high note with Housing Committee Chairman Donald Black thanking board members for their support over the past three years for Jones County’s Georgia Initiative for Community Housing team.

The commissioners joined Gray’s City Council in assisting with the committee’s application and expenses for the group’s retreats. The GICH team focused on affordable housing for Gray and recently received the good news of the receipt of a $385,000 housing grant.

Jones County Zoning officer Tim Pitrowski brought commissioners a request from Equipment Leasing Enterprises LLC for a rehearing on a rezoning petition that was heard Aug. 7.

Pitrowski explained that the request may be brought back in six months, but the company does not want to wait. He said what is required to grant the rehearing is to find that there is new or additional information not available at the time of the original hearing or not presented due to excusable neglect.
