Jones County’s two middle school softball teams both advanced to the second round of the Central Georgia Middle School Association playoffs last week before being eliminated.

The Gray Station Lady Hounds defeated Rehoboth Road Middle School from Griffin 17-1 in the opening round at home on Tuesday, then were edged 13-12 by Pike County on Friday, ending their season.

The Clifton Ridge Lady Cougars topped Upson County 5-2 on the road on Tuesday, then lost 11-9 at Monroe County on Friday.

“I wish we had a next game,” Gray Station coach Mandy Vaughn said. “We missed going to the championship game this year. Feels kind of weird. We were winning 5-0 in the second inning, then our defense started to struggle. Luckily our bats were hot and we were able to stay in the game. We had 16 hits to Pike’s nine, but they were able to score one more run.”

Bree Comer went 5-for-5 with three RBIs at bat, and she struck out three and walked seven while pitching.

Cheyanne Mosteller was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Maddie Knight was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
