After being shut out 35-0 by top-ranked Northside-Warner Robins at home last Friday, Jones County hits the road Friday to face Lakeside-Evans in a showdown for third place in the region and start a key three-game stretch to finish the regular season.
The Panthers are now third in the 2-AAAAA standings with a 3-1 mark after beating Greenbrier 34-17 last week, but the Greyhounds, who are 2-2, can pull even with a victory Friday. After that, Jones County finishes the season at home with games against Houston County and Grovetown.
Lakeside-Evans finishes up by hosting Evans before visiting Warner Robins.
Grovetown is also 2-2 in region play now, but the Warriors host Warner Robins Friday before finishing the season on the road against Greenbrier and Jones County.
The top four teams in the region advance to the state playoffs. Northside and Warner Robins are both 4-0 in region play pending a showdown next week, and it appears they will finish as the top two seeds. That leaves Jones County in a battle with Lakeside-Evans and Grovetown for the final two slots. Evans, with a 1-3 region record, has an outside chance at finishing fourth. Houston County and Greenbrier, both 0-4 in the region, are pretty much out of the race.
