Jones County’s Veterans Committee met last week to put the final touches on details for Veterans Appreciation Day Nov. 10 at the W.E. Knox Center.

The program is for all veterans, and lineup begins at 12:30 for the Veterans March into the 1 p.m. program, which takes place in the auditorium.

Retired Col. Richard Combs is the chairman of the committee, and he recognized member Evelyn Collins for manning a table for veterans at the Lions Club fair. The table provided information about Veterans Appreciation Day and pavers available at the Veterans Memorial at the Courthouse.

The chairman said Gray Station Better Hometown Manager Heather Busby made a presentation to the Board of Commissioners last week about a veterans park to be located next to the memorial. The commissioners unanimously approved the park.

Treasurer Bonnie Duke gave her report of $4,856 in the organization’s checking account. Duke said the gifts for the veterans have been received, and Vietnam hats will be sold as a fund-raiser.

New banners have been received for the veterans walk, and they were donated by Speedy Signs.
