MACON: John Walter McGowan, 67, of Rebel Drive, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in Macon. The family received friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, before 2:00 p.m. services in Real Life Church, 2491 Gray Highway, Macon. Pastor Bo Turner and the Rev. John McGowan officiated. Burial was in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. McGowan was born in LaGrange, the son of the late Charlie and Effie Pressley McGowan. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ed McGowan and Ricky McGowan. Mr. McGowan was a retired heavy equipment operator, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Sue McGowan; children, John McGowan Jr., Nicole McGowan Garnto, Laura Lee McGowan Dunbar; grandchildren, Jessica McGowan, Erica McGowan, Morgan McGowan, Hannah Garnto, Samantha Garnto, Wyatt Garnto, Lane Dunbar, Prescilla Dunbar, Bo Dunbar, Tucker Dunbar; brothers, Homer McGowan and Allen McGowan.
