Flames were through the roof of the Hungerford Road home when firefighters arrived.
The chief said the firemen quickly advanced multiple hose lines inside the dwelling and deployed an aggressive attack for more than an hour.
Homeowners Shirley Simmons and Herbert Driskell were sleeping when the blaze broke out and were able to escape harm’s way.
