Jones County Board of Commission members remained after the Jan. 24 meeting held at the Station One Fire Station to continue to discuss problems with dry wells in the area that residents have been experiencing for more than five years. All five county commissioners attended the meeting
The Jan. 24 meeting was hosted at the Fire Station One building and was led by Commissioner Tommy Robinson. Commissioners Larry Childs, Jonathan Pitts, Daylon Martin, and Chairman Preston Hawkins were also in attendance.
Robinson began the meeting acknowledging the existence of the water problems of the residents, which is basically having dry water wells.
“We are here because you are having problems. We’re not making any promises, but we are here to gather information and create a database for future expansion,” he said.
The commissioner said some money is left in the county’s Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax account and explained one-cent sales tax collections is the only resource for expanding waterlines.
