The Greyhounds needed a big victory heading into next week’s Region 2-AAAAA Tournament, which they will host.

They got it with a triple overtime thriller against Northside-Warner Robins last Friday night in Gray, winning 89-86 to improve to 13-9 overall and 3-2 in the subregion.

“I told the guys that as a player and coach, that was the best game I have ever been a part of,” said coach Dennis Woolfolk, a Jones County grad who played in college and for a number of years as a professional in Europe.

“Both teams kept battling and kept battling. A lot of different players came up big at key times. There was so much excitement from the crowd and the benches. It was just a great game. Hopefully we can keep some of that excitement going the next couple of weeks.”

The Greyhounds were to play at Warner Robins on Tuesday night, needing a victory to pull into a three-way tie for first place with Warner Robins and Northside.

“If we wind up tied, we have a coin flip to decide the seeding for the tournament,” Woolfolk said. “I would rather settle it on the court, but this is what was decided when we set up the subregions last year.”
