Smith named region co-player of the year

Jones County senior center Jarquez Smith, who has already signed with Florida State, was named co-boys’ player of the year in Region 2-AAAAA along with Northside-Warner Robins’ Jarius Smith when the coaches picked the all-region basketball teams last week.

Junior guard Brandon Wimberly was named to the second team for the Greyhounds.

Two Jones County girls also received all-region honors in basketball. Senior guard Keke Roberts was named to the second team, and freshman forward Travia Rawlings was honorable mention.

Warner Robins’ Asha Stegall was named Region 2-AAAAA girls’ player of the year.

Other first-team all-region boys were Juvan Shine of Warner Robins, Davon Akins of Houston County and Justin Burnam of Northside-Warner Robins. On the second team were Andrew Graham of Houston County, Marquez Callaway of Warner Robins and Robert Davis and Christian Kennedy of Northside-Warner Robins.
