Hounds sweep opening meet at home

The Jones County boys and girls opened the track season last Thursday with victories in a three-way meet hosted by the Greyhounds.

The boys won with 59 points, followed by Howard with 38 and Monticello with 31. Following the Lady Hounds were Monticello and Howard.

Both the Jones boys and girls were especially strong in the relay races, winning all four events.

Jequelle Griffin, Jo Jo Gibbons, Deon Pitts and Antwuan Poole teamed to win the 4-by-100 relay. Griffin, Gibbons, Alfred Hunter and Justin Clausell won the 4-by-400, and a second Jones County team of Pitts, Norquavious Moss, Cameron Stanley and Juriel Miller finished second.

Gibbons also won the high jump competition and finished second in the 100 meters to score points in four events.
