Defendant gets 5 years for stealing from homeowner

A Jones County man received five years probation in Jones County Superior Court last month for a burglary that took place while the homeowner was in the hospital.

Michael Joseph Hinson Jr. pled guilty to the crime Feb. 25, and Superior Court Judge James Cline accepted the plea.

According to a report of the crime by Capt. Earl Humphries of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, the burglary and damage to property at the Genie Etheridge Road residence took place May 9, 2011, and Hinson was arrested Oct. 14, 2011. He was arrested with co-defendant Jamal Earvin Fort and two juveniles.

Hinson and Fort were indicted for the charge of burglary by a grand jury June 5, 2012.
