The Jones County athletes performed well in the youth track program’s annual home meet last Saturday at the high school track.

Coach Valvin Hambrick reported that all but one of the program’s 4-by-100 relay teams won, and the other (9-10 girls), which was missing its fastest runner, finished second.

“I must say this was the best performance we have done in the five years here at home,” he said. “I am very proud of our young athletes. They have really become great students of track and field. I watched them dominate this meet, and this is what we needed before going to compete against a very strong sprinting Warner Robins team and tough Crisp County program on April 13th in Warner Robins. This meet will prepare us for the district championships on April 20th.”

Hambrick also thanked the community members, parents and school officials for their support and use of the facilities at the high school, and to the sponsors who helped offset the costs.

Competing against the Jones County team were teams from Bibb County, Warner Robins and Henry County, which brought 125 kids.
