The wins improved Jones County to 4-3 in the subregion standings and put the Hounds back in the running to secure a good seed for the region tournament, which begins April 19.
The Greyhounds, now 11-7 overall, were to play at Northside-Warner Robins on Tuesday and at Houston County on Thursday to wrap up subregion play. They finish the regular season at home on Monday with a non-region game against West Laurens at 5:30 p.m.
“This game made sure we’ll not finish worse than third (in the subregion), and one more win will give us second, which means we would host a first-round series,” coach Barry Veal said after the Greyhounds’ 4-0 shutout of Warner Robins last Friday in Gray.
“That would be huge for us, because we’re pretty tough at home. We’ve only lost once here all year, to Tift County early in the season.”
Earlier, the Greyhounds handed Houston County its first region loss, and only second loss overall this season, with a 7-5 victory at home last Tuesday.
