Jones County commissioners held what ended up being an extended town hall meeting to listen to numerous complaints about the county’s South Recreation Complex last week.

The April 16 meeting was conducted at the firehouse known as Jones County Station One, located on Highway 49. The commissioners recently voted to have their third Tuesday meetings each month at different firehouses in the county to make it easier for their constituents to attend the meetings.

The session began with a recreation committee meeting, chaired by Commissioner Jonathan Pitts. The discussion began with complaints from parents about the use of the ball fields for travel ball tournaments.

Recreation Director Matt Goins started the conversation with an explanation of the problem and his opinion that league play and travel ball teams should be able to coexist as they do in other venues.

“We are here to listen to both sides,” he said.
