Columbus State, then ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, last week won the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in St. Augustine, Fla., downing Flagler 4-0, second-ranked Armstrong State 5-1 and No. 14 Georgia College & State University 12-0.
It was the second consecutive conference title for the Lady Cougars (39-16), who advance to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, which begins May 11 at a site yet to be announced. They also jumped to No. 16 in the latest rankings. Armstrong State remained No. 2, and Georgia College dropped to No. 24.
Carr batted .290 with 19 extra-base hits during the regular season as Columbus State’s designated hitter, tying for fifth in the conference in home runs with 10 and 10th in RBIs with 35. She was also 7-2 with two saves and a 2.15 ERA as a pitcher.
Carr went hitless as the Lady Cougars’ cleanup batter during the Peach Belt Tournament but reached on an error, walked three times and scored two runs.
